The Envious
Canto XIII
Canto XIII - The Envious
“ Just as the blind cannot enjoy the sun,
so too the shades I saw before me here
the light of Heaven denies its’ radiance.
The eyelids of these shades had been sewn shut
with iron threads, like falcons newly caught,
whose eyes we stitch to tame their restlessness.”
so too the shades I saw before me here
the light of Heaven denies its’ radiance.
The eyelids of these shades had been sewn shut
with iron threads, like falcons newly caught,
whose eyes we stitch to tame their restlessness.”

The Envious
“I cannot think there walks the earth today
a man so hard that he would not be moved
by what I saw next on that ashen way.”
